PLFM-100 APPLICATION NOTES

INSTALLING THE PLFM-100 IN THE COLLINS RADIO COMPANY 310Z-1 EXCITER

      The stereo option (786V-1) and/or the SCA option (786W-1)   
      will directly interface the PLFM-100 input(s).


     1)  Remove Cards A3 (AFC discriminator), A5 (FM Modulator),  
         and A6 (RF mixer). Keep A4 (AFC sync. detector) as this  
         contains the driver circuits for the meter amp.


     2)  For composite input, connect composite source directly to 
         green wire of PLFM-100. Both composite and pre-emphasis  
         inputs can be used simultaneously.


     3)  Connect RF output of PLFM100 to J1 of Amplifier assembly 
         A7. A convenient location for this insertion point would 
         be the output cable from RF Mixer A6. There is a regulated 
         +20 V source on connector XA6-pins 25 & 26, and ground on 
         27. This regulated voltage would then connect to the     
         PLFM-100 12V regulator circuit schematic, for a +12v DC  
         regulated source.


4)      Add regulated 12v to PLFM-100 power input. There should be 
        sufficient drive into Q1 of A7 full output.


9)      Be sure to adequately shield PLFM-100 in a metal enclosure. 
        The use of feed-thru bypass capacitors (100-1000pF)
together with ferrite beads is highly recommended.
